Whether you are starting a restaurant or catering company or are in the industry already, there are a number of commercial cooking utensils that you will need to perform your daily tasks efficiently. These are some of the cooking utensils that a chef cannot do without.

Carving knife and carving fork. These two utensils are needed to slice meat and chicken to the desired thickness so that you can serve it either in a meal or in a sandwich. A good, sharp and hygienic carving knife is a very useful tool to have.

Serving tongs. This may seem like an insignificant utensil but as a chef you have to be considerate of hygiene at all times. A serving tong allows you to move food items from one dish to another without touching the food.

Pastry server and cake server. In the same breath as the serving tongs, these servers are also necessary for hygiene purposes. However, their duty stretches a bit further. Once you’ve sliced the cake, using a server will enable you to neatly lift the slice of cake and place it on the plate. This is critical for presentation purposes.

Egg lifter. Any restaurant that offers a breakfast service will be cooking eggs on a daily basis. The egg lifter is required to lift and turn the eggs in the frying pan. For presentable eggs, an egg lifter is a necessity.

Potato peeler. This is a tool that no chef can do without. If you don’t have one, you’ll have to peel each potato with a knife. This will take twice as long than having to use a potato peeler. The potato peeler is a convenient and safer option.

Stainless steel grater. Investing in a quality stainless steel grater will ensure that you have a durable, long lasting and hygienic grater in your restaurant. It is convenient because you can grate vegetables for salads or meals and fruit for meals and decorative purposes.

Cheese slicer. This is another convenient utensil that saves you time. Slicing cheese with an ordinary knife can take a lot of time and each slice won’t be the same thickness. With a cheese slicer you are guaranteed that each slice is the same and is sliced quickly one after the other.

Griddle scraper. If you flip burgers and cook steak on a griddle surface then you need to ensure before each burger or steak is cooked that the griddle is clean. Using a griddle scraper quickly and easily removes any food debris from the griddle surface.

Spout ladle. This utensil is very handy for dishing soups and sauces. The deep scoop acts like a small cup and holds the soup and sauce while you transfer it from the pot to a bowl. The spout allows you to neatly pour it without any spillage.

Ice cream scoop. Every restaurant serves ice cream as a dessert on their menu. Without an ice cream scoop, how else will you transfer the ice cream to the dessert bowl? This is a necessary kitchen utensil for your dessert service.

These are a list of the essential cooking utensils that every chef needs in their restaurant kitchen.
