Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Restaurant

With spring sunshine and blossoming trees, comes happier people who want to go out. They want to spend time outside because the weather is lovely. Restaurants are the perfect way to spend an afternoon, especially if they have an outdoor seating area. For restaurant owners it means their restaurants will become busier over the next few weeks and months. Consequently, they must also keep the cleanliness status in mind.

If you haven’t already, you need to spring clean your restaurant. And you have to keep it clean daily throughout the season to ensure happy customers. Here are a few tips.

Deep clean all the floors. If you have any carpets in your restaurant, ensure that they are washed, not just vacuumed. Carpets can be efficient dirt trappers, and that includes bacteria. If possible, get rid of unnecessary carpets altogether. Wash and sterilise all the floors as well. It is a good idea to polish them so that they have a marvellous shine that will attract customers.

Sterilise all surfaces. Clean and sterilise all the surfaces with detergent. This includes all the restaurant’s tables, countertops, and chairs. Yes, it’s important to clean the chairs as this piece of furniture is touched by every customer that sits on it.

Conduct a stock check of all food items. Check all your refrigerators, freezers and cupboards for any expired food items. Expired food items can cause mold to develop and this can contaminate the good food. Ensure that you eradicate all the old food and have only fresh ingredients in stock.

Clean all the refrigerators and freezers. While you are conducting the stock check, remove all the food from the refrigerators and freezers. Turn the commercial refrigeration units off and let it thaw. Once all the iced water has run out (use a flat bowl to capture the thawed ice water) you can use kitchen detergents such as dishwashing liquid and water to wash the inside of the refrigerators and freezers.

Wash the windows. People often forget about the windows, but now is a good time to wash them. They are probably dirty due to the rain and wind that occurred during winter. Wash the windows with a window cleaner and dry them immediately to avoid any water marks from occurring. A clear clean window can lighten up a room and make it more inviting for customers.

In addition, check that your entire restaurant is cleaned, such as every corner, the bar, the crockery, cutlery, and all the catering equipment. Remember that your customers will appreciate eating in a clean restaurant.
