Everyone is now immersed in the world of staying safe and at the forefront of the #staysafe movement is personal protective equipment. It may be a new concept for many people but for the food and medical industry, personal protective equipment or PPE has been the norm.
For those not in the know, here are the different types of PPE available for your business.
Since the start of the pandemic, facemasks have been a requirement for every individual. You have a choice of disposable and reusable facemasks. The importance of wearing a facemask is to prevent the spread of germs in the air. Therefore, it is essential that the facemask covers both the nose and the mouth for it to be effective.
A face shield which is clear can be worn over the face, ideally in addition to a facemask. It protects the whole face from direct exposure from saliva droplets that are released while speaking, sneezing or coughing.
This personal protective equipment protects the eyes from being exposed directly to any liquids, germs or gases in the air.
These days checking for high temperature to detect a fever is part of the daily routine. Anyone who enters your premises and has a high temperature cannot be allowed in. Thermometers minimise the risk of Covid19 exposure within the building.
There are both disposable and reusable gloves available. Gloves are mostly used in the food industry, butcheries, and the medical field to prevent cross contamination of germs to different surfaces. In the food (including meat) and medical industries disposable gloves are a better option because you can dispose of the gloves immediately after use to minimise the risk.
As the word suggests coveralls cover all of you. It is a one-piece suit that covers you from the head to the ankles.
Shoe covers are disposable and are placed over your shoes to prevent you from walking out of the building with contaminated shoes. These are used in butcheries and the medical industry.
This is an interesting piece of head gear that is used in the medical industry to prevent exposure to high-risk germs. It is a disposable piece that is placed over the head and neck whilst allowing a narrow gap for the face. It is suggested to use this with a facemask.
A mop cap is used to cover the hair on the head, so that hair strands do not end up in the food.
We are all too familiar with sanitizer, but this is essential if you’re not near a water tap to wash your hands. Sanitizers kill the germs on your hands and you can use it throughout your day.
